LIFE PanPuffinus! - Logo & Identity Design
Logo & identity design for Birdlife Malta's "LIFE PanPuffinus!" project, which aims to protect two endemic and threatened Mediterranean seabirds, the Yelkouan Shearwater and the Balearic Shearwater.
The logo symbol focuses on the flying figure of the bird -the two species share many similarities- and the characteristic contrast of lighter and darker areas of its wings and body. I included the element of the sea, as we wanted to show the environment of the birds too, whose preservation is also part of the project's aim.
I used two typefaces, one handwritten by me, with rounded corners that match the symbol's approach, and the other simple, easy to read, bringing a more digital-style element to the whole. Blue and light blue colors are bold and bright, incorporating the sea and sky.
In designing the project's Visual Identity, the intention was to create a formal style, which is also appealing to the general public/young audience. A style that is simple, yet impactful, and immediately makes the onlooker think about nature and the habitat it lives in.
